Amid the global debate over race relations, colonialism and slavery, some of the Europeans and Americans who have made their fortunes in the human trade have seen their legacies reassessed, their statues toppled and their names removed from public buildings.

Nigerian journalist and novelist Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani writes that one of her ancestors sold slaves, but argues that he should not be judged by today’s norms or values.

Nach dem Marshallplan, den vielen Sonderinitiativen, dem Corona Sofortprogramm, nun das Reformkonzept „BMZ 2030“, mit dem sich das Ministerium auch europäisch aufstellen will.

Following the Marshall Plan, the many special initiatives, the Corona emergency programme, now the reform concept „BMZ 2030“, with which the ministry also wants to position itself on a European level.

Sudan scraps apostasy law and alcohol ban for non-Muslims

After more than 30 years of Islamist rule, Sudan has outlined wide-reaching reforms including allowing non-Muslims to drink alcohol, and scrapping the apostasy law and public flogging.

"We [will] drop all the laws violating the human rights in Sudan," Justice Minister Nasredeen Abdulbari said.

A raft of new laws were passed last week but this is the first public explanation of their contents.

Sudan has also banned female genital mutilation (FGM).

Der Begriff beschreibt den Sprung zu technischen und sozialen Errungenschaften, die Menschen das Leben leichter machen, wobei ineffiziente, umweltschädliche und kostspielige Zwischenstufen der Entwicklung möglichst übersprungen werden. Als sich beispielsweise in Afrika um die Jahrtausendwende das mobile Telefonieren ausbreitete, dort, wo es zuvor kaum Festnetzverbindungen gab, war das Leapfrogging.
