Fears of violence as Kenya presidential challenger Raila Odinga rejects ‘fake’ result of poll

Kenya’s opposition party leader has rejected presidential election results that show his rival, Uhuru Kenyatta, heading for a return to power.

Raila Odinga said that last night’s results were “fictitious” and “fake”, and claimed that forms signed by observers at every polling station, certifying the results, had not been produced.

Raphael Tuju, secretary-general of Mr Kenyatta’s Jubilee coalition, predicted that the president, 55, would win a second term with 54 per cent of the vote, and similar margins in parliamentary, senate and local government seats. Polls closed at 5pm and by 7am local time, with more than 85 per cent of the votes counted, Mr Kenyatta had a 54.8 per cent share of the vote to Mr Odinga’s 44.3 per cent.
